In the past, the husband and I have always had his CPA/accountant brother look over our taxes haphazardly. This year, because we 1) just got married, 2) bought a home, and 3) have several incomes (some freelance) with us, we thought we'd get a professional. My last accountant over charged me and did a poor job. This is a family business, daughter and father team. They are local, Lincoln Park and Lake view area and I prefer local rather than an over priced downtown firms. I have a complex return and they handled it in a fast efficient manner. They are very well qualified, the father has a CPA and 30 years of experience and the daughter has a CPA and an MBA in accounting from the University of Illinois. They were easily accessible and pleasant to work with. They do an outstanding job and if you need an accountant, a challenging return or not, you will get very highly qualified accountants that charge quite reasonable fees.

Bert Roman is truly a great gentleman. I had a somewhat complicated issue with the IRS for a 2005 return. The IRS actually reached into my personal savings account and took a lot of money from me that they thought I owed. I took this issue to Bert and today, I am happy to say, the IRS gave me all my money back, plus fees and interest! I can not say how grateful I am for his help.
Besides being a tax ninja, was the kindest man I met this side of the Mississippi. During our consultations he would offer me food from his restaurant downstairs, not taking no for an answer.. almost like a Greek or Spanish mom. He felt so bad for my tax situation he said he wouldn't charge me unless he was able to get the money back for me. I am happy I found such an honest man and I will use him for all future tax needs.
